ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
After leaving French side Strasbourg, former Arsenal and France midfielder Vieira is reportedly negotiating with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) over potentially replacing Gregg Berhalter after he was dismissed in the wake of their Copa America group stage exit.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite his legendary status as a player over his spells at Arsenal, Inter and France, the former midfielder's managerial record is not good enough to merit him being picked as the man to replace Berhalter, ex-USA and Bolton star Holden says. Vieira has not won any silverware during his time at New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg, and he has not lasted more than two years at any of his clubs so far.

WHAT HOLDEN SAID
"Let’s take Patrick Vieira for example: Why would he be the right choice for USMNT? No international managing experience, no proven track record of consistently winning or improving young players," Holden wrote on social media.
"His only semi-successful stint as a manger was at NYCFC. NYCFC: After he left, they won MLS Cup with Ronnie Deila. Nice: Finished seventh first season and then it was pretty darn bad.
"Crystal Palace: same thing, didn’t last two years and performances were worse than when he first arrived. Strasbourg: One year with young squad, no investment, but still: poor results and was moved on."

WHAT NEXT?
It is not yet known if the USSF will pick Vieira as their option to take Berhalter's place at the helm of the national team. The likes of Gareth Southgate, Mauricio Pochettino, Rafael Benitez and Luis de la Fuente have all been linked with the job, too.
