The Bundesliga giants were linked with a move for Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann after it was made public that Thomas Tuchel would leave the club at the end of the current season. However, Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen while Germany boss Nagelsmann agreed to sign a new deal with DFB.

According to , the Bavarian club are now considering appointing an interim manager as they plan to wait for Alonso or Jurgen Klopp to be available next year. They have reportedly prepared a shortlist of managers who could join the club on a short-term deal. The list includes names like former Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre and ex-German and Bayern boss Hansi Flick.
